In Quest of the Spirit:

The Painting of Jerome Tupa, O.S.B."I don't trust poetry. I don't trust words," said Jerome Tupa. Instead of relying on spoken language, Tupa taught himself the art of painting to explore spiritual understanding. While studying to become a monk in the Order of Saint Benedict at St. John's Abbey, Collegeville, Minnesota, and ultimately accepting priesthood, Tupa honed
his artistic ability. Although his work has taken him in and out of abstraction, in and out of representation, he has returned to his original mission: To evoke the spiritual through visual means.
