North Dakota Museum of Art
2009 Summer Arts Camp Calendar

June 29-July 3
Amy Lyste and Becky Sefkovic-Uglem
One, Two, Three and More – Making Prints

Amy Lyste and Becky Sefkovic-Uglem are the directors of the Third Street Gallery on Kittson. Both received their Fine Arts degrees at the University of North Dakota. Amy worked as a graphic artist, while Becky continued on to earn her Masters degree. They continue to promote and create art. Printing is a process where Amy, Becky and students will use inks and paint to create prints. No experience is necessary as we explore many kinds of prints, block printing, potato stamping, silk screening and many more ways to make more–than-one-of-a-kind artwork.

July 6 - 10 (ages 13 and older)
Sue Fink
"Close-up" Painting
Sue Fink is the Director of Art Education at the North Dakota Museum of Art. From Minnesota, Sue has lived in many places, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in sculpture at Oregon’s Museum Art School. Sue has been painting, drawing and printing ever since. Her project will be limited to students ages 13 and older. Using the work of artist Chuck Close as a starting point, students will learn to make their own realistic paintings using Close’s technique, one which he developed and still uses despite his struggle with a debilitating disease. (This camp has an option for campers who travel a distance to stay in residence halls on campus)

July 13 - 17
Adam Kemp
Life as an Artist

Adam Kemp is a most prolific and talented artist whose work is found in homes and businesses throughout the region. He has shown at the North Dakota Museum of Art, the Plains Museum, and at various galleries. Adam is from England and has chosen Grand Forks as his second home. He was awarded Grand Fork’s First Annual Artist of the Year award. Kemp brings a mix of fun and education into all of his projects with young people, and is a favorite artist with kids and parents. Adam will assist kids to make and paint art creations using discarded and found objects – however, don’t hold us to just that. Anything goes in Adam’s camps!

July 20 - 24
Michelle Brusegaard
Its So Easy Being Green

Michelle Brusegaard is back to conduct yet another exciting camp filled with a variety of projects. Michelle is a very busy professional artist whose work has been featured in Museums and galleries around the region. She recently started a business where she branches out into creating dress design, card and paper making, fabric dying and other artistic wonders. In this camp Michelle will be using primarily recycled or “Green” materials. Dying, making paint, using fabrics, paint, papers and found objects will be the focus of this camp.

July 27 - August 1
