2011 Summer Arts Camp Calendar

June 27 – July 1 (ages 6-15) Randi Nordin It’s All About Me
Randi Nordin is an artist who recently earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Colgate College in New York and has worked in our Summer Day camp program for several years. Randi will conduct a camp where we re-create and map ourselves by painting, drawing, collaging, building and any other ways you can make a statement about YOU.

July 5 – 8 (ages 6-13) Guillermo “Memo” Guardia The Third Dimension

Guillermo Guardia, known to most of us as “Memo,” is a sculptor and ceramicist. His work has been featured locally in the Museum’s exhibit Artists in War II and other exhibits at the North Dakota Museum of Art as well as in the You Are Here Gallery and the Third Street Gallery on Kittson in Grand Forks. He also has had national representation. His camp will offer three dimensional experiences in sculpture. A favorite with kids (because he’s much like a kid himself) you will find you won’t be disappointed with his camp.

July 11 – 15 (ages 13+) Kim Fink Painting
Kim Fink is a professor of printmaking in the University of North Dakota Department of Art and Design. He holds degrees in painting and printmaking and has 30 years experience teaching art courses to people of all ages. Kim shows his work regionally, nationally and internationally and is the recipient of many awards. He developed SunDog Press, a print “shop” that prints for, and with, well-known artists as training for his college students. In this painting camp, he will help teens develop painting techniques and investigate contemporary ideas and art while they create their own work.

July 18 – 22 (ages 6-13) Adam Kemp Animals: Grand Forks Style
Adam Kemp was the first Artist of the Year for Grand Forks. He is an artist who has been a mover and shaker in the Grand Forks art community for many years. His work is collected by museums, shown in galleries and featured in homes and public spaces around the city and state. He oversees the You Are Here Gallery in downtown Grand Forks. Adam encourages children to stretch their imaginations by offering open-ended projects that involve found objects, unusual materials, students’ energies and FUN!

July 25 – 29 (ages 6-13) Margo McCreary Puppet World Comes Alive

Margo McCreary is a puppeteer who creates humorous, lively puppet theaters. She is known for her 7-foot tall puppet character, Ollie McNutt who has come to live with Margo inside for the past 30 years. Margo performs in small theater venues, the Fringe Festival, cabarets, school and libraries. She has been an art educator endorsed by the Minnesota Sate Arts Board since 1985. In this camp Margo will teach students how to build and how to bring to life vibrant puppet characters. She has also taught a graduate level puppetry class at the Center for Global Environmental Education at Hamline University in Minnesota. Her antic spirits in the classroom are contagious for budding puppeteers, and for kids of all ages. You will not be disappointed.

August 1 – 5 (ages 6-13) Sheila Dalgliesh Everything Art
Sheila Dalgliesh has been with the Museum for many years in many capacities, including working at the Museum, teaching camps, classes and workshops and being a strong supporter of the Museum. She is currently an artist-in-the-schools for ArtWise as well as creating in her own studio. Sheila’s works have been featured in shows around Grand Forks. Kids love her! Everything Art is her theme this year, new and improved, and even more exciting. Her camp will combine learning about materials, discovering ideas and just plain making lots of art.
