2 Months at a Museum: A Reflection

I have officially been at the NDMOA for 2 months now.  I  (Maddie) was hired to do social media for the Museum (my official job title is Social Media Administrator and Marketing Assistant). My thoughts going in were, "Yeah, I love art, I love museums, doing Facebook and Instagram for one will be so much fun!". I was right about that, this is the best job I've ever held, but little did I know how much more this job would come to mean to me. This isn't just posting on Facebook. Through the NDMOA, I've met so many people that I never would have otherwise, and forged so many new relationships and friendships. I've learned the contemporary value of museums. Museums can bring people together in a way that no other institution can, and can add so much value to the life of the community, in a way nothing else can. I thought I would be posting pictures of art on Instagram. Instead, I've chronicled relationships and friendships fueled by the Museum, and that is so much better. I don't just post events on Facebook, I help grow the awareness of an institution that brings an amazing amount of joy and beauty to people of all ages and walks of life. I don't work at an outdated institution, I work someplace that's bringing more vibrancy to people's lives, right here, right now. I can say, two months in, that I truly, honestly, love my job at the NDMOA.
